Next Monday Processing Citizenship at the “Digitized Global Mobilities” conference in Utrecht

On Monday 3 June, 2019, Processing Citizenship’s PI will give a keynote lecture at the “Digitized Global Mobilities” conference organized at the University of Utrecht.

The Program of the “Digitized Global Mobilities” conference starts at the Cervantes Institute (Domplein 3, 3512 JC Utrecht) at 9:00. Prof. Dina Siegel will open the works. The first panel will feature Prof. Huub Dijstelbloem (University of Amsterdam), Prof. Myria Georgiou (London School of Economics) and Dr. Annalisa Pelizza, Processing Citizenship’s Principal Investigator.

The conference will continue in the afternoon with lectures by Prof. Sandra Ponzanesi (Utrecht University), Dr. James Tangen (De Montfort University), Prof. Katerina Linos (UC Berkeley School of Law) and a series of workshops. On June 4th, workshops, world cafés and a book presentation will assure the continuation of scholarly exchange.

Annalisa Pelizza’s lecture is titled “Processing Alterity, Shaping the European Order” and will introduce the concept of “alterity processing” to account for the simultaneous enactment of individual “Others” and emergent European orders in the context of informational migration management. Notably,  drawing on the research conducted at the border in Italy, Greece and Turkey, at the EU Commission and on information systems, Annalisa will argue that what is currently going on along with the effort to register and identify migrants is a set of negotiations among European actors.
