Processing Citizenship will be present and contribute to the works of the conference by the theme “Borders and Technology’, together with hundreds of scholars and interested in the role of infrastructures as agents of change in Europe.

Processing Citizenship team members will actively contribute to the Tensions of Europe (ToE) conference program with workshops, a panel and lectures. Notably, the Principal Investigator, Annalisa Pelizza, will share the project’s goals and insights at the pre-conference research workshop ‘Europe, Borders, Technology: Ongoing Research Projectson September 7th, together with other European project leaders. She will also chair the session ‘There to Stay: Articulating the tension between volatility and entrenchment in border regimes infrastructures on Friday September 8th, featuring state-of-the-art research about infrastructures, borders and mobility by leading and emergent European scholars. Another Processing Citizenship researcher, Mariangela Veikou, will give a lecture on (Post crisis) asylum in Greece. Maneuvering between Crisis and Statelessness.

The ToE conference is organized biennially by the Division of History of Science and Technology, Department of History and Philosophy Science, School of Science, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (http://www.phs.uoa.gr/hst/) and the Foundation for the History of Technology (http://www.histech.nl/www/en/), which is hosted by the Eindhoven University of Technology.

Tensions of Europe is an international scientific network consisting of almost 300 scientists from all over Europe and the United States. Since its inception in 1999, the network explored a broad range of themes, focusing on the linking and delinking of infrastructures, the emergence of transnational technical communities and the circulation of artifacts, systems, knowledge and people. By organizing conferences and summer schools, stimulating international research collaboration and disseminating research results to various audiences, TOE aims to reveal the role of technology as an agent of change in European history.
